Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP)

Eligibility:
Individuals must be overweight and at high risk for developing diabetes.
Overweight and have been diagnosed by a physician as someone with pre-diabetes.
This program helps people who are older than 17 years old.
You may also qualify if: • HbA1c between 5.7% and 6.4% • Fasting plasma glucose between 100 – 125 mg/dL • 2-hour plasma glucose level of 140-199 mg/dL or higher.

Description:
The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program helps those at high risk adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles and reduce their chances of developing type 2 diabetes. In a classroom setting, over the course of 16 one-hour, weekly sessions, a trained lifestyle coach will help participants change lifestyles by learning about nutrition, getting started with physical activity, overcoming stress, staying motivated, and more. After the initial weekly sessions, classes continue to meet monthly for up to a year for added support to help maintain progress.

This program provides:

Program goals are to reduce body weight by 7 percent and gradually increase physical activity to at least 150 minutes per week.

The program is offered at several locations, including YMCAs, throughout the Dallas area. Therefore, please call to find locations in your area.

Classes are $429, but scholarships are available and the entire class is covered by some insurances.
