GRAND PRAIRIE FOOD AND CLOTHING CO-OP

Misson:
The Mission of the Grand Prairie Co-op is to provide emergency food, clothing, and crisis assistance to needy citizens of Grand Prairie and to others who may meet specific eligibility requirements. Clients must be residents of Grand Prairie and meet the TexCap income limits for households. Photo ID and proof of residency required for applicant and birth certificates for children.

Each family is eligible for food three times per year and monetary assistance once a year. The Co-op shares client assistance with other agencies in the city and county.

  • Food Items We Always Need are: Canned Meats and Canned Chili, Soups, Peanut Butter, Jelly, Cereal, and donations of money to purchase food.
  • Our clothing pantry receives “gently” used clothing for use by clients. We need seasonal clothing that is clean and in good condition. Always needed are children’s clothing, blue jeans and work clothes. Shoes, socks, and underwear are also in demand (no used underwear or panties, please). Donations of bed linens and towels accepted
  • The Co-op needs contributions to its Crisis Fund to help people in desperate circumstances. This fund assists with utilities and rent for those facing eviction, as well as gasoline for clients with job interviews. The fund also covers partial payments on prescription drugs.

Every dollar given to the Co-op goes for client services and related expenses. There is no paid staff. For the year 2009, the Co-op Food Pantry served 3,649 families (9,751 individuals) with a week’s supply of groceries. This totaled approximately 180,000 pounds of food.
