Rusty McLen – Marriage and Family Therapist

Hope and common sense when you need it.

Services:
My name is John R “Rusty” McLen. I go by Rusty. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and have been counseling in a variety of venues since 1989. Before getting my formal education, I was deeply rooted in the blue-collar working world. My experiences in that world include working on the family farm, doing mechanic work with my Dad, serving 7 1⁄2 years in the Air Force as a crew chief and flight engineer, a tour in Vietnam, long distance trucking, and refinery operations.

When challenged to go into ministry, I began my education at 34 years old in Abilene, Texas at Abilene Christian University. After 5 years of study and 2 degrees, I spent the next 13 years as
the counseling minister for a church in Abilene. Since that time, I have served on the faculty of my Alma Mater supervising students in training, worked in private practice, and worked at a
children’s home. Throughout those years, I have maintained a private practice.

In my practice I have consulted with churches experiencing problems, traveled to Africa to work with a mission team, taught classes on anger management, and conducted a support group for female survivors of sexual abuse; a group I was invited to initiate. I am fluent in both blue collar and academic languages. The wisdom I learned on the farm and working world provide the common-sense approach to life’s problems that I am known for. I enjoy being with hurting people in difficult moments knowing that healing is just around the corner.
